Time is the one ultimate resource that we all possess; and in order to achieve our goals, we must become masters of time. February is almost over, and I'm happy to report that I've done a pretty decent job at keeping up with this year's goals so far. Yay me! 🎉 Yes, I still have a long way to go, but I do have some tips and tricks that are proving to be amazing at boosting productivity. For me, the aim is to be productive, never busy. Keep scrolling to discover 5 things I do to be incredibly productive.
MAKE A LIST
Writing things down is a simple task, but let's face it, 90% of the time, most of us just can't be bothered. However, in the fast-paced world we now live in, it's too easy for our brains to get lost in the sauce of never-ending things that need to get done. Needless to say, creating detailed to-do lists can take a ton of stress away! It's important to write EVERYTHING down, no matter how trivial it may seem. If using a pen and paper isn't your thing, there are tons of apps that can be just as effective. I personally use Wunderlist for this, since it's free, easy to categorize, and also has an efficient alarm/reminder feature. My friend Chris introduced me to the app about 7 months ago, and it has rocked my world ever since!
CHOOSE A THEME
Some people claim to be great at multi-tasking, and I'm definitely NOT one of those people lol. In fact, I think multi-tasking is a huge myth! There's no way you can simultaneously give multiple tasks equal amounts of attention. I find that things get done much faster and notably better, when I focus on one theme per day. For example, I may designate Sunday for chores, Monday for shooting/filming, Tuesday for financial duties, et cetera. Concentrating on one theme at a time has not only made me more efficient, but also lessened my overall anxiety towards my ever-growing list of things to do.
At the beginning of the year, I reverted to planning each upcoming week on Sundays, to make sure I allocate time to important tasks. After all, failing to plan is planning to fail, right? Call me old school; but there's just something sincere about planning my week in a physical planner - I'm just more likely to commit 🤷🏽♀️. Once I create my to-do list , the next step is to schedule tasks in my Happy Planner based on each day's theme. Again, my Wunderlist app comes in handy here, because I can assign dates and daily reminders to tasks based on what I've planned out. I'll admit it - taking the time out to plan your week can get annoying af, but the benefits far outweigh the cons. I cannot stress enough, how much revisiting this habit has improved my life!!!!!
In a perfect world, we'd check off every single item on our to-do lists on a daily basis; but sadly such an occurrence is very VERY rare. No worries though, the more important thing is to get major tasks done ASAP. Something that has worked for me, is selecting 3 tasks on my list on a given day, as non-negotiable, high priority jobs. That way, in the event that I do not get to everything that day, the most important things are completed and I'm still on track to achieving my goals.
2 MINUTE RULE
You know those little tasks that always get pushed to the bottom of your to-do list because they're simply too 'insignificant' to be a priority? Yeah, let's not have 'Schedule dentist appointment' on the list for 4 months! An easy way to get these small tasks over and done with, is to apply the 2 Minute Rule. While making your to-do list, if something pops up that takes 2 minutes or less, don't pencil it in for a later date - just do it now! You'll thank yourself for it.
