It's that time of year again - you know... that time when you throw on too thick of a top in the AM and spend the rest of the day re-evaluating your life choices 😂. Summer is about to be officially over y'all!
I've learned so much about life this summer; and it would be totally selfish if I didn't share.... As usual, life has a bizarre way of teaching you things, just when you need to learn them, so I really hope this will hit home for someone who needs it.
Here's what I learned:
1. Be grateful
It's super easy to get caught up in all the things you don't have or the things you thought you would have accomplished by now; but dwelling on that stuff doesn't move you forward - gratitude does. Being genuinely grateful for how far you've come, will replace all the frustration of your journey with a sense of fulfillment. Taking some time every day to say/write the things in your life that you're grateful for seems simple, but it has seriously changed my life 🙏🏽
2. Don't chase
Stop chasing the things that you want - success, people, things, opportunities... That ish is exhausting 😩 just stop! Instead, level up in every aspect !!! Becoming the person that you want to be will gradually bring all the things you want straight👏🏽 up👏🏽 to👏🏽 your👏🏽 face👏🏽 - no chasing necessary.
3. Multi-tasking is a myth
They lied to us! There's no such thing as multi-tasking 🙄. Science has proven that the human brain cannot equally focus on two things at once, one of them is going to suffer. So stop trying to do the absolute most just because society says we should 😒. Pick one thing at a time, do it well, and I promise you'll be more productive.
4. Keep it movin'
A wise fish once said 'Just keep swimming'. This is so profound y'all 😩 ... like on some real shit. I'm the type of person who will plan every single detail before beginning to execute; and that mentality is a double-edged sword. That mindset has slowed me down for years! But this year, I've come to realize that nobody has it all figured out and I mean NOBODY! It's okay to not know the next 3 steps. It's alright to not have a complete map to where you're headed. The most important thing, is to keep going. Standing still for too long delays your greatness. Make the best move you can at any given time, and eventually things will start to make sense. 🙌🏽
4. Done is better than perfect.
6. Don't let other people hold you back
Your friends & family won't always get it, but sometimes it's okay to put yourself first. It's okay to ditch brunch to workout. It's okay to cancel girl's night to study. It's okay to stay home and watch that business strategy seminar, instead of hitting that day party with your friends. IT'S OKAY!!! Selfishness is necessary for growth; and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
7. Life is short
This one isn't new; but ever so often something crazy happens to snap you back to reality. After some surreal events this summer, I'm reminded that life isn't promised - you can literally be here today, and gone tomorrow. Please don't waste time on people and things that aren't good for your soul. Quit waiting for the perfect time to take that trip, start that business, or tell that person you love 'em. Stop letting life just 'happen' to you. Be intentional with your life. Don't just exist... LIVE!
